This page includes photos of Grenoble and the mountain ranges that are not related to cycling. Visitors to the area may take some time off the bike for sight-seeing, hiking and relaxing. There are plenty of great places to visit if you like being outside.
Grenoble is surrounded by three mountain ranges, the Chartreuse, Vercors and the Alpine Belledonne range
Grenoble
The Belledonne and Ecrins
The following photos were taken from and of the Belledonne and Alpine mountains to the west of Grenoble.
The Chartreuse
The Chartreuse are the mountains to the north of Grenoble, a limestone massif with green meadows and numerous peaks, each a great goal for hiking.
The Vercors and the Trieves
The Vercors and Trieves ranges can be found to the south of Grenoble, and to the west of the high peaks of the Alps.
Briancon and around the town
Briancon is situated 100 kilometres to the east of Grenoble, in the heart of the Alps. Italy is close over the Col de Montgenevre, and there is a huge scope of places to visit in every direction.
Wildlife and Sky
One of the best times to visit the Alps is May and June, the snow is disappearing fast and the countryside is starting to turn green. Small flowers appear on the mountainsides.
Towns
The first two photos were taken in Annecy, a lovely town in the northern French Alps, which can get busy in the summer but is worth a visit. The following photos four photos were taken in Avignon and Nimes, both in the south of France, and close to Mont Ventoux.
